Hola!
My name is Maria Jose Lopez Sancha (a.k.a. Ms Maria)
I am originally from Andalucia, the south of Spain. I'm a Certified Elementary Teacher with a Specialty in Music and Rythm Education for Early Years. I have more than 15 years of experience working with children, and currently work as a Spanish Teacher in Jefferson Parish, LA.
In Spain I worked six years in The International School Swans (in the Elementary and Middle School Campuses) teaching the IB curriculum of Language Art and Science and Spanish as a Second Language for our international students.
Besides working as an elementary teacher, I taught music, theater, and dance in the Early Years Program of The Artistic Lyceum in Marbella, Spain. Also participated as a monitor in El Fuerte Nagueles Summer Camp leading various outdoor activities with the children (canoeing, archery, trekking, climbing…)
I migrated from my native Mediterranean city to New Orleans nine years ago to teach Spanish in an exchange program between the Departments of Education of Spain and US for Elementary Schools. I immediately fell in love with the city and its culture, but the thing I'm more grateful of this adventure is to be a part of the Gretna #2 Academy family.
Maria
